Trojans Prepare For Opener
Quarterback Kelly Collett has just released a pitchout and the blocking is forming for a sweep around right end during a spirited practice session by the Portage Collegiate Trojans football team. Trojans opened their league schedule this Thursday with a game at Stonewall. Big Ross McKellar in the foreground will likely add a great deal of running power for the Trojans along with No. 78 Bill Gendron, Glen Kolansky, and Bob Hyde. The teams play nine man football and the Trojans home opener is slated for Wednesday, September 25 with Neepawa providing the opposition.
Wade Kisko will be handling the kickoffs, punts, field goal tries and converts this season for Portage Trojans. Trojans were setting up formations for kicking and receiving kickoffs at Monday night's practice. Coaches Ross Smith, Danny Smart and Barry Sadler were making the most use of the best weather since camp opened last week. The roster is less than 20 for the nine-man three-team league and injuries may result in some players seeing extra duty. On Kisko's left is Cal Miller, who has been working out at the quarterback position with Kelly Collett. Trojans play their league opener Thursday at Stonewall and have their home opener next Wednesday with the game to be played at Indian Student Residence grounds.
