CIVIC RECEPTION FOR PORTAGE TERRIERS
Receive watches| Goaltenders Richard Chritstie, Ty Langton and John Memryk along with forward Al Hilton were the first Portage Terriers to receive engraved gold watches from the city of Portage during a civic dinner held Tuesday afternoon at the Portage Hotel. Hilton is second from the left in the picture.
Terrier forwards| Gold watch recipients Tuesday afternoon at the civic dinner included from the left Dan Bonar, Bill Calder, Don Arthur and Randy Penner. At the rear are secretary-treasurer of the city of Portage la Prairie, D. G. Rodger and Ald. W. A. Linden, who presented the four players with the watches. In front of Penner is Barry Moroz, play-by-play broadcaster on CFRY of the Terriers games, who was a head table guest.
Autograph seekers| Saskatchewan Avenue was lined with hundreds of people Tuesday afternoon as youngsters cheered the victorious Terriers and got autographs from players prior to the Terriers being treated to a steak dinner hosted by the city of Portage at the Portage Hotel. Here is a sample of the crowd that waited for the motorcade to stop near hotel.
Remember the 1st one| The first Portage la Prairie Junior hockey championship came to Portage in 1942 when the Terriers won the Memorial Cup. From the left are Lindsay McDougall, trainer of the 1942 team, Mrs. Addie Bell, wife of the late Addie Bell who coached the team, and Jim Cook, a member of the Terrier executive in 1942.
