City Militia And Cadets In Camp Shilo Shoot

Target References were kept in careful check at Shilo ranges Sunday as militia officers and men conducted their first live shoot of the year. Left to right here are Capt. M. Kirkwood of Portage, troop commander who conducted one of the shoots, Lt. Col. A. J. Brereton of Brandon, commanding officer of the 26th Regiment, and Major V. H. Dyer, officer commanding the 38th Battery from Portage and battery commander during the weekend exercise.

Bombardiers Were In Charge of gun crews when the militia unit carried out a live shoot at the Shilo ranges during the weekend. Here the crew handled by Bdr. Pasche has just fired a round from the 105mm and a puff of smoke can be seen just emerging from the breach. The loader, at left, is already on his way up with another round.

A Soft Drink to wash down lunch. Tom Case and Bill Anderson of the PCI Army Cadets Corps tip back a soda pop during the noon hour break at the Shilo ranges Sunday. They were among cadet observers from Portage who spent the day watching militia artillerymen conduct a "live" shoot. Lunch was a "stand-up or sit on the sand" deal for everyone.
