(Vopni) April 8th, 1973 MEN’S CURLING MEN’S LAST CHANCE ‘SPIEL LAST CHANCE WINNERS Doug Hambly’s Portage rink won the Portage Curling Club’s Last Chance bonspiel during the weekend with a win in the final over Wayne Troop, also of Portage. From the left are Hambly, third Reg Malanchuk, Portage Curling Club’s president, Bill McCowan, who presented the trophies to the winners, second Lorne Williams and lead Ron Kuhtey. Curling with troop were Burke Wilson, Vaughan Greenslade and Hub Maxwell. Irwin Joel was third in the first event and Ken McCulley was fourth. 2nd EVENT WINNERS Dan Stewart, skipped his Portage rink to a victory in the second event of the Portage Curling Club’s Last Chance bonspiel during the weekend. From the left are Stewart, third Ken Duchnycz, second Gil Moar and lead Les Muir. Stewart defeated Jack Schwaluk in the final. Bruce Brown’s rink was third and Ken Baccus placed fourth in the event. There were 60 rinks entered in the bonspiel with Gary Genaille winning the third event as he downed Scott of Souris in the final. Jim Stewart was third and Terry Ownes was fourth. Curling with Genaille were Terry Waddell, Gerry Hogue and Bob Pasieczka. 3rd EVENT WINNERS Abe Friesen skipped his Winnipeg rink to a win in the fourth event of the Portage Curling Club’s Last Chance bonspiel during the weekend. From the left are Abe, third Jim Friesen, second John Friesen and lead Gary Barkman. Friesen defeated Barry Effler of Steinbach in the final. Rick Williamson of Portage was third and Lloyd Rigby, also of Portage, was fourth.
