Schram November 19 1974 Men’s Curling JIM WISHART TESTIMONIAL Curlers fete Jim | That’s our boy. Gordon Johnston, MLA, Clarence Patterson, of the rural municipality, and Garry Cobbe, representing the city, make sure everybody knows we got a winner at Jim Wishart’s testimonial dinner in the Centennial Hall. A large crowd was on hand to pay homage to Jim in recognition of his contributions to curling over the past 40 years. Just like old times | Re-united Tuesday at the testimonial dinner for Jim Wishart in the Centennial hall was the Don Brownridge rink of Portage, winner of the seniors’ provincial curling crown in the 1972. The Brownridge rink went on to tie for second place in the national playoff at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Team members are Wishart, Bill Kitson, Ken Blair and Brownridge. MCA’s top brass | Line of succession in the MCA presidential structure – Jim Adamson of Gladstone, second vice-president: Vic Palmer, first vice-president, Jim Wishart, president, and Fred Law, immediate past president. The other three were on hand for the Wishart testimonial dinner held Tuesday night in the Centennial hall. Mr. Wishart is the first out-of-Winnipeg resident ever to be president of the MCA in its lengthy history which extends back past the turn of the century. Right now it’s fun . . . | Tomorrow morning probably won’t be a fun thing, but right now, who cares? Or at least that seems to be the way Fred Law, past president of the MCA, views the matter, Fred was on hand Tuesday at the Centennial Hall as the curling fraternity gathered to honor one of its outstanding members, J. W. (Jim) Wishart. Actually, some wise guy put some of those bottles in front of him – Fred probably didn’t empty more than half of them. Select Company | They were all there Tuesday night at Jim Wishart’s testimonial dinner in the Centennial Hall, past presidents of the Portage curling club ranging back to the time the rink on Main St. N. was first built. From the left are George K. Hill, Rod McLeod, Cliff Bagrie, the incumbent Henry Riendeau, Gary Cobbe, Dave Moffat, Tobe Trimble Jr., Jim Wishart, Bill Kitson, Don Clark, Harold Painter, and Clarence Troop. Inset is Bill McMillan.
