Annual Ladies Bonspiel Winners
Dorothy Gillespie skipped her Portage rink to the top in the Portage Ladies Curling Club's 39th annual bonspiel during the weekend. Mac Bereza of Delta Motors, sponsors of the first event, presented the winner's shield to Mrs. Gillespie while third Laureen Thom, second, Beryl Davidson and lead Joan Wolfe display their winning trophies. Gillespie defeated a Carman rink skipped by Clarice Oldcorn in the final.
Marj March skipped her rink to a win in the Smith Motors Event, the second event in the Portage Ladies Curling bonspiel held during the weekend at the Portage Curling Club. Don Clark presented the trophies to, from the left, Marj., third Gloria Ross, second Bev Bachalo and lead Bev Owens. Marsh won the final over Betty Ramsay of Winnipeg.
Helen Wilde skipped her Portage rink to victory in the Portage Creamery event of the Portage Ladies bonspiel over clubmate Audrey Lamb. Trevor Owens made the presentation to skip Wilde, third Isa McCulley, second Mary Game and lead Cheryl Maxwell. Evelyn Nicholls of Portage was third and Asta Smart of La Reine Curling Club was fourth.
Vi Oswald's Portage rink won the Portage International Harvester Blight's of Portage event of the Portage Ladies Bonspiel during the weekend at the Portage Curling Club. Howard Gillam presented the winning trophies to Oswald, third Elsie Hanke, second Erma Rusk and lead Lois Wilson. Oswald defeated Thelma Kelly in the final. Mary Adair of Southport was third J. Lamb of MacGregor was fourth.
