Tashiro Nov.29/74 Greenhouse PORTAGE GREENHOUSE PRODUCTS LTD. FIBEROUS BEGONIA CROP
APRODITE BEGONIA. The plant Hank Verhoeven is showing is a Aphrodite begonia. There are some 350 blooming double-petal blossoms from a single root to make it an eye-catching display. These begonia can be displayed in pot or in over-hanging baskets. In the background are part of the 3,000 poinsettia plants which Mr. Verhoeven is working to market soon. He is also inviting the general public to drop in and view the setting before too many of the plants are shipped out.
POTTED BEGONIAS. The Portage Greenhouse Products Ltd. Operation northeast of Portage now supplies the bulk of potted fiberous begonia plants to the Manitoba market. Hank Verhoeven, left, who along with Don and Gordon Bradley operate the greenhouse, introduced the new venture late last fall. In their first crop geared for the Mother’s Day market last spring, they supplied 1,400 plants. There are 1,600 in the current crop, all for the Christmas trade.
