32nd Annual Horticultural Show

The 32nd annual Portage and District Horticultural Society's flower and vegetable show proved a place of wonder to seven-year-old Rita Antonissen. Here she peers through a display of zinnias to have a look at the flowers on the other side of the table.

One of Portage's veteran horticuluralists. G. G. Grigg, second from left, was on hand Wednesday at the official opening of the annual flower and vegetable show. Here Portage and District Horticultural Society president A. J. Kitson, left, and secretary-treasurer Eric Smith, right, discuss the show with Mr. Grigg and W. H. Bradley, second from right. Mr. Bradley officially opened the show.

A perennial winner at the Portage flower and vegetable show, J. H. Burtonshaw, above, is back again this year with a fine entry. Here he shows his wife one of his 1963 winning vegetbale exhibits.

The Island Park Exhibition Building was a busy place the past two nights as near-capacity crowds jammed the building for the 32nd annual horticultural show. Here part of the large crowd files past exhibits of crab apples.

Mrs. J. Stanger, left, won the grand aggregate and the cut flowers trophy at the 32nd annual horticultural show while J. H. Burtonshaw, right, had the best exhibit of vegetables. Mrs. Stanger won the T. W. Preece Cup for the grand aggregate, and the Lister Cup for cut flowers. Mr. Burtonshaw was awarded the Cole-George Trophy for his exhibit.

This trio exhibited the three best individual entries in the annual horticultural show which ended Thursday night. Standing in the "place of honor", left to right, are Mrs. J. W. Tucker, Mayfair Trophy, best potatoes, H. D. Sparling, Mil-Jeanne Trophy, best gladiolus, and Mrs. M. Brown, Garland and Wilson Cup, best dahlia.
