Vopni April 1/73 Jr. Terriers TERRIERS SWEED MJHL FINALS IN FOUR STRAIGHT
TRAVELLING FIRST CLASS. Muzz MacPherson, coach of the Portage Terriers, was hoisted to the shoulders of John Hewitt, left, and Bob Miller, right, while Bill Robertson adds support in the rear. Clutched firmly in MacPherson’s right hand is the Ollie Turnbull Memorial Trophy, emblematic of supremacy in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The Terrier coach appears to be using Hewitt’s head to balance the huge trophy but the Terrier four-year veteran was too happy with the win to let it bother him.
TRIUMPHANT TERRIERS. Portage Terrier captain Grant Farncombe was presented with the Ollie Turnbull Memorial trophy by MAHA president Frank McKinnon Sunday might after the Terriers eliminated St. James Canadians in the league final in four straight games. Grant and his teammates are shown here as they begin to whoop it up after clinching the championship. Terriers next step in their bid to win the Centennial Cup is a series against the Saskatchewan winner. The playoff will open on Tuesday, April 10 at the Portage Arena with the second game here on Wednesday.
GOALIES HONORED. Murray Bannerman of St. James Canadians, on the left and John Memryk, of the Portage Terriers in the centre were joint winners of the season’s top goaltender award in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Brian Engblom of the Winnipeg Monarchs is the first recipient of the E. M. Jones Memorial trophy as most valuable player in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Brain, 17, was the leagues’ top scoring defenseman with 17 goals and 46 assists. Making the presentation is Mrs. E. M. Jones.
