96 RINKS IN PORTAGE CURLING CLUB’S ANNUAL BONSPIEL.
PRESIDENT MAX WILTON poises his sturdy arm while drawing a bead on the button during the opening ceremonies at the Curling Club’s 69th annual bonspiel. Naturally, it landed well inside the four-foot circle. Dwight Moxham of Oakville and Bob Lamb of MacGregor, a couple of strong- arm sweepers, stand ready to help the rock if needed, but Max had the “weight” pegged perfectly. At right, Mayor H. L. Henderson, looking like an old pro at the game, gives Max the target for his outstanding shot.
MEN AT “WORK” Stan Schram of the Daily Graphic and Vince Leah of the Winnipeg Tribune are two of the men who’ll be keeping Central Manitoba posted on the progress of the Portage Curling Club’s 69th Annual bonspiel.
BOSPIEL CHAIRMAN GEORGE McMASTER, w(information missing) here by Jim Clark, was the busiest man in town this morning as they collect the(information missing) the curlers before the first draw of the curling club’s 69th annual bonspiel. Besides keeping a finger on the pulse of the big bonspiel, George is the curling second rock for the Gerry Cobbe rink.
ALTHOUGH the opening ceremonies weren’t for a while later this was the first handshake between skips at this year’s edition of the bonspiel. Gerry Cobbe of Portage and L. E. Branes of South Port were the first skips on the ice as the big event got under way Monday morning.
