INTERMEDIATE “A” PROVINCIAL FASTBALL FINALS PLAYED AT THE PAN-AM COMPLEX PINE FALLS WINS ALL
BOB HAWES, CMFL PRESIDENT, veteran Pete Dewis of the Seals and Centennial committee chairman Harvey Carmichael are beaming, prior to the opening of the Intermediate ‘A’ fastball championships Saturday at Island Park. Although rains dampened the spirits of the tournament committee later that same day, the tournament ran smoothly. Mr. Carmichael and Mayor W.A. Linden complimented president Bob, secretary-treasurer Bob, the tournament committee and the ballplayers at the conclusion of Sunday’s games for the fine manner in which the championships were conducted. Sportsmanship prevailed throughout the two days and the winners were congratulated following each game. Pete is playing in his 20th season in the Central Manitoba Fastball League and for the past two seasons, his son Larry has been his teammate. Pete’s father is also a staunch supporter of the league. Bob and Harvey are serving their first year at their respective positions but both are doing a fine job.
PINE FALLS CANADIANS won the Manitoba Intermediate ‘A’ fastball championships over the weekend at Island Park. The team capitalized on hustle, steady pitching and strong hitting to repeat their 1967 championship at Dauphin. Pine Falls beat Gimli Falcons 4-3 in two extra innings on Saturday and followed it up with four wins in a row on Sunday. The team personnel is practically identical to the 1967 lineup.
