(Tashiro) Jan. 24-25/69 CURLING
Man. High School Boys Provincial Playdowns and Finalist
HIGH SCHOOL CURLING CHAMPS – Bill Henry’s Charleswood rink. From the left are Henry, Peter Hayward, Craig Parker and Ken Sheppard. The Henry four, who are holding the Victor Sifton trophy, will represent the province at the national playoff Feb. 17 to 21 at North Battleford, Sask.
RON CHRISTIE, at 14 the youngest competitor in the high-school curling championships, is probably having a little dream all of his own as John Cameron, representing the Winnipeg Free Press, and Fred Lay, the Manitoba curling association president, hold high the Victor Sifton trophy, emblematic of high-school curling supremacy in the province. Ron is lead for his brother Doug’s rink from the River East Collegiate.
BOB PICKEN, with pencil, explains a point in the operation of the mnaitoba high-school curling playoff which opened here this morning. Absorbing the message are Eddie Gilroy, representing the Manitoba School secondary athletic association; Don Brownridge, the event’s drawmaster, and Cece Watt, of the MCA junior committee. Picken is the chairman of the MCA junior committee.
