3013 (Tashiro) March 4, 1971. Rec. Commission. Recreation Commission Bleacher Construction – For Arena, Diamond Toboggan Slide At Island Almost Completed. Terrier hockey fans will have some new bleacher seating for tonights playoff tilt against Selkirk Steelers in a semi-final round now tied at a game apiece. The new seating was being installed by workmen Thursday afternoon at the west end of the arena building. All that slide and no snow – The weatherman hasn’t been too co-operative in local efforts to get a toboggan slide going for this weekend’s Winter Fun Festival. It’s all ready to go – but there’s no ice, and no snow at the Scout cabin grounds where the slide was constructed this week. Tobogganers, however, remain ever hopeful and are about the only people locally pining for some of that eastern snow.
