The President of the Canadian Chambers of Commerce, G.S. Thorvaldson, Q.C., of Winnipeg, didn’t say Wednesday night that he actually laughed at the “prophets of gloom,” but he did mention they had for the past ten years predicted a depression on the scale of 1930, and that despite them, the country was still on its feet. The photo was taken during one of the lighter sides of his address to the Portage and District Chamber’s annual meetings.

“Better Portage” Award: Mrs. James Franklin, past-president of the Portage la Prairie Local Council of Women, receives the Better Portage award from G.G. Tidsbury of the Portage and District Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented the Local Council of Women for its work during the past year.
