When La Verendrye’s paper mache statue went up in smoke Friday afternoon, it not[text missing] marked the end of the school’s “Spirit Week” but ushered in the 1974 Portage la Pra[text missing] Winter Fun Festival. The burning of La Verendrye, centre, is the first recorded event [text missing] this weekend’s opening ceremonies held in the Centennial Arena Friday evening.
