Athletic laurels

These five Portage Collegiate students found time during their busy academic schedule to excell [excel] in various sports. Seated from the left are Colleen Gilchrist, who won the coaches award for basketball and Susan Wilson, most valuable player. Standing, from the left, are Wayne McWhirter, football coaches’ award winner, Ferdi Nelissen, winner of the Barry Sharp Memorial trophy as best all around athlete and Bill Gendron, rookie award in football. The awards presented Tuesday during the final assembly of the year.
