Militia retirement - Maj. Vic Dyer

It actually fires — A model artillery piece that actually loads and fires was presented to Major V. H. Dyer, at left, on his retirement as Officer Commanding the 38th Field Artillery Battery, RCA, in Portage. Capt. D. W. Rae makes the presentation on behalf of the Officers' Mess. Major Dyer joined the Manitoba Rangers here in 1934 and the 37th Battery in 1936 when the artillery unit became the only militia group in Portage. He served overseas with the 17th Field Regiment, RCA, during World War Two, and rejoined the militia in Portage on his return from active service.
