Historical cairn unveiled at station site

Cairn unveiled

There was quite a turnout on hand Wednesday for the unveiling of a cairn at the Manitoba Hydro in the east end of the city. It marks the spot of Substation No. 2 of the former Manitoba Power Commission. The city of Portage la Prairie was the first customer of MPC in 1920, and this event was also marked during the day's recognition of the part this community has played during its 55 years association with the hydro utility in Manitoba.
