Portage Golf Club’s Present Handsome Clubhouse
Portage Golf Club presidents are pictured at the Portage Golf Club in a photo donated by Max Nelko of Maxwell Studios. Below the presidents is a picture of a presentation on May 17, 1961 of a silver tray and a life membership to Harvey Sparling. George Hill is making the presentation. Below the two photos is the G.P. Armstrong trophy donated in 1923 for annual completion. The winners of the trophy are located elsewhere in this paper.
The Groundskeeping Staff at the Portage Golf Club includes from the left, Ron Green, Art Palmer and Steve Shyiak. Their duties throughout the summer are to keep the fairways and greens cut and to water the golf course in the dry weather. The Portage Golf Course has been described by many visitors as being the most picturesque that they have played and these three men are kept busy throughout the summer maintaining this effect.
