The iceman cometh
The iceman cometh — Genial Mike Chiponski of the Portage Ice Company, shown holding a block of ice with a pair of tongs, is well known to many Portage youngsters during the summer holidays. When the truck stops on one of the side streets, Mike says as many as 15 youngsters crowd around to pick up slivers of ice to suck on in order to keep cool.
